Ok, writing a review of the day in Falkirk. Got over there at about 5pm, had a quick look around town as I have never been there before. Then headed down to Callander Park. After a quick amble about the various things on show I headed over to the stage so see the set up. Some support acts were on but you could see the Leagues set up, the high platform with the bands equipment covered by black cloth and the 3 white mics at the side of the stage. Between bands the DJs from some local radio station were coming on and hyping up the crowd for the main act of the day.

Sauntered over to the beer area and met up with some of the Massive (Ive known you for too long with his lady and Louise). We also met up with some folk from Hull who were at the academy gig at Xmas. Much League chat was had as well as over-priced Carlsberg and WKD from plastic bottles. Nice.

We all headed over to the stage at about 7 in anticipation of the main event. The audience was quite different from the usual Xmas shows. Lots of young people who were barely born for Romantic? never mind Dare. Families, dogs etc. Strange mix! We heard that the band were due on at 8.10 and due to finish for 9.30. While in the audience we met up with a lot more of the Massive: Only Human, KraftwerkDave, Andy, Phoenix the feline, Afront with his mate Paul and kids and a few more. There was a good representation from this board.

At about 8pm I thought I was going to burst in anticipation! Just couldnt wait to see one of my fave live bands again. We were all wondering what they would open with, dont think anyone of us guessed it would be the beefed-up version of Open your heart but it was a great start. My memory of the set list isnt great, not sure what songs they did in order but Ill give a go at the set list:

That may not be the proper order. Please feel free to correct me! I was surprised that there was nothing from Secrets but I cant complain too much. It was a great show.

Song highlights for me were the audience singing along to TTTDAMO not one of their most famous songs, Phils high vocals during Human he seems to get better with age, like a fine wine. Two teenagers singing the words to "louise", had me wondering if they knew the original version or the Robbie one -they weren't singing along to the other songs! The Lebanon was as good as ever, probably my fave League song live. Everyone was singing along to TMW and DYWM got a massive reaction as usual.

The band seemed to be in good spirits. Making the odd mistake (Phil not singing at the start EDreams for example). Also in some song I remember him running out to start singing, realising there is another bar of music so he ran back again then ran forward again much to Suzannes amusement. At one point DB came out to sing into Suzannes mic, cant remember what song though! They seemed to enjoy the loud boisterous crowd as well. Though there was one woman just behind me who kept cursing which got quite annoying after while especially when she was hanging onto my jacket for most of the gig! Grrrrr! I wasnt the only one to find her annoying from what some of ye were saying!! The crowd really seemed to swell up when the League came on and it was packed back to the sound board.

The stage set up wasnt anything too big. It looked well all the same, with white pieces of stretched vinyl dotted about the stage that were used for reflecting lights, patterns etc during the show. Its my first time seeing them outside and they were well able to fill the big stage. It was a different atmosphere to seeing them on the winter tours, the indoor shows have more of an intense audience reaction. They got a great response all the same. After the gig the DJ came out again and said they were the best band that has ever played the Festival over the years. That would not surprise me. The audience were jumping about and singing throughout.

Headed back to Falkirk town with lots of the Massive. Ended up taking a long journey back to the train station, meeting up with some fellow Irish folk with tents that had intended to camp but were deterred by the number of young Neds in the park. We swigged on pink Lambrisco as we walked up to the train! Got back to Glasgow at 11.30 after yet another good League event.
