This might be usefull for those who Dare to come to Sin City.
To give you an idea Paradiso is near the "Leidseplein" > I circled it. But seriously > Amsterdam has become dangerous nowadays so avoid alleys and walking alone after midnight !

This was better than the previous night by at least a factor of two or three. The place was sold out so all 3 levels were open (on Friday only the main floor was).
Changes to the set-list: ESH in the main part of the set instead of FMIS BB as the first encore track. Best part of the night (in fact, best part of the tour): at the start of ESH, Phil initially couldn't find his keyboard, then having spotted it was nest to DB, as the song started he lay down on the floor. But then as he got to sit up he got a fit of the giggles, and couldn't sing for laughing (DB had to fill in). He then had another couple of moments like that later in the song, imploring us to believe "I'm not drunk, honestly!" Before the show, someone had spilt a drink on the edge of the stage underneath the thick black wires. I pointed it out to the guy that was checking the monitors and mics, and he was totally disinterested, which is of course a) fine and b) up to him. So we get to Electric Dreams, and Phil decides to sit down on the edge of the stage in front of us for the whole verse, and realises with a grimace that he's sitting in a puddle... Apparently he also said "Nice shirt" or "Like the shirt" to me, but I didn't hear it - bloody typical. Oh, and for those that worry about such things, PO was clean shaven. Just a final word about Paradiso. This is a fantastic venue. My neck wishes the stage was a foot lower, but the compensation for that is that no-one, and I mean no-one, tries to barge they way to the front, and everyone is very civilised. They might squeeze in, take a few pictures and drift back again, but in the 4 times I've seen them there, I've never once had any sort of hassle. It was great to meet up with so many people there: Luni, One Man, OM'sM, SirMirrorman, Marcel (thanks again for your presents!), Shagratha, Speak & Spell (post more often, Isabel!), PDC, Murfy, Snake, Total Panic - sorry if I've forgotten anyone - and also to those of you that admitted to lurking, sign up and get on here! Neosupervital: how pleasant are they?! I grew to like the music more than I had at Basingstoke, but to chat to afterwards they were so nice. __________________________________________________

Yes indeed JJ, I was lurking until now. But I' m also registrated now and just added my first topic (appartently on the wrong place because I hadn' t see the topic already excisted
The gig last night was just splendid. We enjoyed it a lot. Especially for my son, who saw them for the second time (first time at Suikerrock) it was fantastic. The fact they have themselves so much fun on stage is great. Phil was a little bit falling out of character and that was so amusing I'm glad I came anyway to A'dam. We only bought tickets for Brugge and Brussels and didn't ment to go to the Paradiso. But now I'm so happy we did it! The sfere was really good. Maybe it's because the Dutch people are more open than the Belgian ones! Or maybe it's just because it was the last gig. I hope the HL got as much energy from his fans as they give us. Up to the next album and the following gigs ... |

What a fantastic 4 days i had!!!!! I went to the four gigs in Belgium and in Amsterdam , and it was amazing!!!!! What an atmosphere, what a vibe!! It was sooooooooo great finally meeting all those people who are on this messageboard! To put a face on all those names! Marcel, i must say you are really the best; you were like Santa Claus every time we met!! Thanks so much for all that! Sabine en Franky, you were fantastic people to hang out with ; i really had a wonderful time with you guys!! The shows were absolutely stunning! I must say i was quite overwhelmed finally meeting the band in Amsterdam( thanks for that Franky!!! It was also really good to see that Phil was very happy with my little bouquet of roses that i gave him in Brussels. Not to mention the chocolates they ALL seem to like! heheh. ( good advice Franky!) It's soo good to see them a couple of times in a row, which it wasn't over yet... Let's hope they can come back soon. |

Not long back from Amsterdam and had a great time. Not much more to say than anyone else has but thanks to the band and all the special people who make going to these gigs so enjoyable (Marcel - you are a star!!) Really like the venue and the Dutch people are just so kind, friendly and polite.
As mentioned, we were on the same flight back and I was mortified but Philip was truely lovely. There is a genuine warmth about that man - he's such a gent. I wish him all the best and hope his future is one he richly deserves. So roll on next year....... |

Watch the Empire State debacle here
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSpNbRcHiwI The quality is great on my local machine, but You Tube seems to have pixelated it somewhat. In the bits before the "14 stories high at least" it's actually db singing ********

I agree with One Man re nice man. As I just posted in the Fri paradiso thread, I was in a bar, desperatly trying to not be there, when he came over, extended his hand and said "Hi Will", before chatting for quite a long time.
My other posts were made from my phone while I was dropping off xmas presents to friends and family in Stoke, so I can go into more detail now I've a proper keyboard As JJ said, the second night was far better than the first, and the first night itself was better than the UK gigs, which were all fantastic. It started off with SuperNeoVital. They had been given a few visuals for the last night. The crowd were really up for them, and the bass frequencies nearly did hit that bowel moving frequency. VitalSuperNeo are a fantastic bunch, and I spent a while chatting with Tim on the Friday night and wish him and Jessie, Lauren and Vin all the best for the future. Phil really does rate them highly. Their two performances at Paradiso were the best of the 7 that I saw. I would have gone to Amsterdam to see just them alone. Throughout the tour I've thought that the Human Leagues performance has been near flawless. None of the goofing by Phil of dates or lyrics that we've come to expect. I think he was saving them all up for tonight, because they came thick and fast. The first one came with the first word of Love Action. Phil had come on stage in his long coat, with the collar turned up covering his chin and mouth. He started to sing, and the first words we heard were "you know you're in love' when he realised that his collar was muffling the mic. Later in the song, during an instrumental bit he put the mic to his forehead as though a dalek. Clip here When the coat came off it revealled a cleanly shaved Phil. After Louise he bigged up Superneovital, before correcting himself. Neosupervital. He blamed it on his tie being too tight. Clip here Empire State Human was fantastic. Phil just gave up for a while and let db sing. Clip here Then finally, he couldn't remember what album All I Ever Wanted was off Clip here Neosupervital joined us for the encore, and Dancing Vin does dancing Vin to every track. In TIED they were god worshipping Nic. All in all, the best gig of the tour for me. I'm sure that the presence of dodgy smoke in the air probably assisted in the mood of the crowd. ********
